Pistons Hopeful Coaching List Loses Borrego

San Antonio assistant James Borrego won’t be coming to Motown. ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Borrego is set to become the new head coach of the Charlotte Hornets.

If the deal is completed, Borrego would replace Steve Clifford, and become the 12th head coach in team history, and the 11th different person to hold the position. Paul Silas led the team from 1999-2002, and again from 2010-2012.

Clifford had been the head coach since 2013-14 and was 196-214 in 410 games as head coach. His .478 career winning percentage is 4th all time in Hornets/Bobcats history.

Borrego has served as an assistant coach with San Antonio twice, New Orleans, and Orlando. He also went 10-20 in 30 games as the interim head coach of the Magic after Jacque Vaughn was fired in 2014-15.
