Verlander Notches 2000th K; Tigers Win

Wednesday afternoon the Detroit Tigers completed a 3-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins 6-3.  Ian Kinsler went 3-4 with a home-run and 2 RBI to lead the Tigers offense.  The win, the 4th in a row for the Tigers, brings their record to 19-21.  Detroit will have Thursday off before beginning a weekend series at home Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Justin Verlander pitched 7 1/3 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, 10 K’s, and 3BB’s.  With his 7th strikeout of the day Verlander upped his major league total to 2000.  The career milestone makes him only the 2nd Tigers pitcher with 2000 K’s.  The other is Tiger legend Mickey Lolich who ended his Tiger career with 2,679 strikeouts.  Only 76 major league pitchers have eclipsed the 2000 strikeout mark.
