University of Michigan Baseball Wins 18th Straight

The Wolverines picked up win number 22 on the year, and their 18th consecutive to improve to 22-11 on the year following a 19-5 victory over Penn State. The streak is the longest for Michigan since 1988, and they improved to 9-0 in the Big Ten for the first time since 2008. The Wolverines got started strong with 5 runs in the fir st and second innings to take a 10-0 lead, they would score 2 in the third, 6 in the fourth, and 2 in the sixth. The Nittany Lions (8-23) were held scoreless until their 5-run ninth. Left hander Tommy Henry improved to 7-0 on the year, pitching 5 innings, striking out 8, allowing 1 hit.

Offensively, every Michigan starter reached base, and the offensive star of the day was Junior third basemen Blake Nelson. Nelson went 4-for-6 at the plate, with 6 RBI. His offensive outburst nearly doubled his season RBI total, and he’s now hitting .286 with 11 RBI and 17 runs scored.
