Tigers Place Norris on DL, Expected to Miss 8-12 Weeks

When Daniel Norris left Sunday’s start against Baltimore, the team announced it was due to groin tightness. This is the same injury that hampered Norris last season. “He’s tired of it coming back.” manager Ron Gardenhire said. Norris will have surgery on his groin Thursday, and is expected to miss 8 to 12 weeks. The team placed him on the 10-day disabled list Monday, but will likely head to the 60-day list; which will create a spot on the 40-man roster for an additional call-up if needed.

Norris is 0-2 with an ERA of 5.87 in 15.1 innings this year. He was acquired in 2015 along with Matt Boyd and Jairo Labourt from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for David Price.

To fill the roster spot, the Tigers called up Chad Bell. He has appeared in 2 games this year, pitching 5.1 innings and has allowed 9 hits and 2 earned runs for an ERA of 3.18. He has recorded 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.
