The scholarship was available to any graduating senior in Jackson or Lenawee county who was entering a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, or mathematics) related field at a college or university in Michigan.

$7500 of the $14,000 for the scholarship were raised through a scholarship match challenge with area businesses.  Orbitform, Christoff & Sons Floor Covering, Country Markets, CP Federal Credit Union, R.W. Mercer Co., Omnisource, Childrenz Challenge, Iott Insurance, Michigan Community Credit Union, Signal 88 Security, and Spring Arbor University each donated $500.  TAC Manufacturing and the Dryden Family Foundation each donated $1000 toward the MIS Cares scholarship program.

The students were awarded the scholarships Tuesday night at MIS along with six school districts who received $5000 technology grants.  Addison Elementary, Concord Elementary, Da Vinci High School, Frost Elementary School, Madison Elementary School, and Michigan Center were awarded those funds.
