As part of an ongoing initiative to promote learning among students at all education levels, MIS Cares awarded $1000 scholarships to seven students from Jackson county and seven students from Lenawee county. The Jackson Students receiving scholarships:
Regan Bernstein – Columbia Central
Quentin Blonde – Concord
Kayla Burmis – Hanover-Horton
Brooke Huizenga – Lumen Christi
Tiffany Jones – Northwest
Thomas Plummer – Columbia Central
Rachel Rudd – Columbia Central
The scholarship was available to any graduating senior in Jackson or Lenawee county who was entering a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, or mathematics) related field at a college or university in Michigan.
$7500 of the $14,000 for the scholarship were raised through a scholarship match challenge with area businesses. Orbitform, Christoff & Sons Floor Covering, Country Markets, CP Federal Credit Union, R.W. Mercer Co., Omnisource, Childrenz Challenge, Iott Insurance, Michigan Community Credit Union, Signal 88 Security, and Spring Arbor University each donated $500. TAC Manufacturing and the Dryden Family Foundation each donated $1000 toward the MIS Cares scholarship program.
The students were awarded the scholarships Tuesday night at MIS along with six school districts who received $5000 technology grants. Addison Elementary, Concord Elementary, Da Vinci High School, Frost Elementary School, Madison Elementary School, and Michigan Center were awarded those funds.
