The Spartans battled and twice pulled to within 10 points, first on a driving layup from senior forward Malik Hall with 11:45 to play.
A jumper from senior guard Tyson Walker cut the lead to 55-45, but the Boilermakers scored six-straight points to make it 61-45 on free throws from Edey with 8:58 left.
