Following a vehicle accident involving Michigan Center Student/Athlete Roger Hayward, the Michigan Center community, and the Jackson County community as well, have rallied around to help support his family.
Still hospitalized, Hayward continues to make strides in his recovery. Michigan Center Superintendent Brady Cook spoke to WKHM’s Greg O’Connor about his progress. “Roger is such a fighter, and always has been. He’s such a hard worker and such a great kid. None of us are surprised that he continues to make tremendous progress. The updates come in everyday and every day you say ‘wow that’s amazing’. That’s kind of the kid that Roger is.” Cook said.
The family has felt the outpouring from all over. Superintendent Cook said that Hayward’s mother has been overwhelmed by the support. “I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that his mom, Linda, has been very vocal in saying that he feels the support from not just the Michigan Center community, but we’ve had an outpouring from all of Jackson County, and prayers and good thoughts, and those things are definitely accelerating the process for Roger.” Cook said.
Benefits continue to make their way through social media as well. Events and other items to help with medical expenses have been shared throughout the community. A bowling event has been scheduled for January 5th, “Roger Strong” stickers will be available at this evening’s Michigan Center basketball game, a Mexican Fiesta dinner (see below), and the Lumen Christi Tight End Club has set up a venmo account for donations (see below).
