The Columbia Central Golden Eagles Girl’s Soccer team took the short trip up M-50 to play the Pirates of Napoleon in the final game of the regular season on Monday night and came away with a 1-0 victory.  Sophomore Mara Henry notched the lone goal punching in a rebound of her own shot that was initially saved by Napoleon goalkeeper Joy Collins.  Collins had another strong outing in net for the Pirates making a handful of tremendous saves that kept the margin close throughout but in the end, despite a mad scramble in the closing seconds that saw Napoleon bang a long shot off the cross bar and narrowly miss the follow up shot to tie the game, the Columbia defense held strong as it has all season to secure the shut-out.  Junior Kolie Brown was not required to make an official save but was credited with the clean sheet, her 12th of the season.
“The Napoleon coaching staff needs a lot of recognition, both times we have played them their game plan was very good and their players executed it well.  We played well enough to win but they made it difficult to get many solid scoring opportunities both times and by managing to keep the score to a single goal there was constantly a threat of a counter, and they very nearly got that this time as time expired.”  Said Columbia coach Andy Hosmer.
Columbia finishes the regular season 12-2-3 and in 3rd place in the Cascades with a 10-2-2 record.
