Castellanos, Cabrera Pace Offense As Tigers Win Big

Nicholas Castellanos finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in the Tigers’ 12-4 win over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night. His first home run of the season and three RBI helped Detroit win their fifth game in six attempts. Meanwhile, JaCoby Jones continued his hot series with a home run, and Miguel Cabrera added three RBI of his own, and scored two runs as well.

On the mound, pitcher Mike Fiers became just the second Tiger since 1908 (Dan Petry) to pitch fewer than six innings, allow ten hits, strike out none, and still win the game, according to Baseball Reference. Fiers improved to 2-1 on the season. Warwick Saupold notched his first career save, pitching 2 and 1/3 innings of relief.

The Tigers and Royals conclude their series Sunday in Detroit, with Francisco Liriano taking the ball for Detroit against Eric Skoglund. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm live on Jackson ESPN 101.9FM
