The Pistons haven’t been to the NBA Finals since 2004-05, Stan Van Gundy hasn’t coached in them since 2008-09. Since then, neither has seen much success. When the two paired together in 2014-15, the situation seemed loaded with potential. After a handful of bad contracts and worse draft choices, Pistons owner Tom Gores elected to remove Van Gundy from the situation with one year left on his deal and just 8 days shy of the fourth anniversary of his hiring.
There is no word on the successor as head coach or team president.
