Karen Abbot Tournament

Hanover-Horton 2, Columbia 0 (25-19, 25-12)

Columbia Central Lady Golden Eagles travelled to Hanover Horton today to play in the Karen Abbott Invitational.  This was a super tough 12 team tournament with some high level teams & it was such a great experience for our young squad.  We started out a little slow & shaky but ended the day strong & determined earning the Silver Bracket Champions!!!!  The Eagles started out the day taking on Hanover first thing & even though we had some great moments & long rally’s with the Comets, they did sweep us in 2 sets 19-25, 12-25.  After sitting for 2 matches (making everyone extra tired) we took on a very scrappy Battle Creek St. Phil team dropping the next 2 sets 17-25, 17-25.  Last match of pool play was against Northwest & we split 20-25, 25-20.  After adding all the scores & points we found our self seeded 10th missing the 9th seed by 2 points.  This put us in the Silver bracket with Hudson, Northwest & Adrian.  Our Semi Final game was with Adrian & we finally found our mojo & put it all together to sweep Adrian in 2, 25-13, 25-16 putting us in the Final against Northwest.  After a big pep talk about locking in & being focused trying to minimize our mistakes & picking a part their defense…..we battled tough, had some fun & swept Northwest in 2 to win the Silver Championship. 25-23, 25-21!  The best part of the day was watching these girls get better & better with each tough match we faced.  We never gave up & showed a lot of heart whether we won or lost.  So proud of these girls & next week we travel to Jonesville on Tuesday & Thursday we will celebrate our last home game with Blissfield celebrating our 2 Seniors – Allie Choate & Blythe McClain.
Stat leaders on the day were as follows:
Digs – Cecelia Slat was tough in defense with 41
Kills – Alison Richardson led with 25, 26 digs & 28 assists
Assists – Mara Henry ran the offense leading with 34 Assists, 24 digs & 18 kills, & 4 blocks
Ace – Allie Choate led with 5 Aces, 18 kills, 5 Blocks
Blocks – Freshman Leelyn Brown was brought up from JV today and was huge at the net today with 8 Blocks, 7 kills & her sister Kolie Brown added 7 kills, 4 Blocks, 3 aces
