Manchester 2 @ Columbia 0

The Golden Eagles Girls Varsity Soccer team came up a little short on Friday night hosting the Flying Dutchmen of Manchester by a score of 2-0.
The Columbia defense held strong for most of the first half but an unfortunate hand ball in the box resulted in a penalty kick that Manchester converted to take the lead.
Columbia generated a few scoring opportunities to tie the game up before halftime but with 33 seconds left in the half a Manchester player collided with Columbia goalkeeper Meadow LaTour and the ball bounced slowly into the net to give the Dutchmen a 2-0 lead.
“I feel it was goalkeeper interference at least, a clear foul at worst.  You’re not allowed to make contact with the goalie as they attempt to secure the ball and that’s what happened.  Conceding that second goal so close to halftime was tough”. Said Columbia head coach Andy Hosmer.
“Meadow did an exceptional job her first stint between the posts this season for us and she deserved better than the score, but it is what it is.”
The second half saw some back and forth action but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
Columbia falls to 3-2 on the season and 3-2 in the Cascades while Manchester improves to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in the Cascades.

Chelsea 3 @ Western 0

Western finished a home match against Charlotte Thursday night with a 9-1 win. The Panthers came out with a quick goal by Nevaeh Hartshorn in the first minute of the game.  Charlotte answered less than a minute later as they launched the kickoff deep into the Panther end and fired a low shot that  took a huge hop and made its way over a sprawling Meadow Pratt.   Western responded the following minute when Hartshorn got in behind the defense again and buried a shot into the far side netting.  With a score of 2-1 after four minutes Western took over and never looked back.  Hartshorn would finish the match with four goals to complete the hat trick plus one. (haul)  Lauren Eisele scored two goals.  Claudia Allen, Ali Shroyer and Rayah Hitt each added a goal.  Marina Walz and Hitt each contributed 3 assists.   Allen had two assists while Hartshorn added an assist as well.  Western ended the game early at the 77th minute mark.  Ali Shroyer had a good defensive game in the midfield and took home the Defensive Player of the Game Award.  Nevaeh Hartshorn was named the Offensive Player of the game with 4 goals and an assist.  Western will play again on Saturday against a very good Chelsea team at home.  Game time is 12:00 pm.
