Cross Country

Over the weekend, both the boys and the girls Grass Lake cross country teams competed in the Jackson High Invitational at Ella Sharp Park. The girls and boys teams each ran the traditional 5k course with determination and drive. For the girls, Adeline Stormont (28th place) and Grace Bullock (30th place) received medals for their efforts leading the team. Rounding out the girls top 7 were Elise Bullock, Katie Million, Taylor Hoppe, Claire Foster, and Maddie Jenks. The boys all ran really well but missed the medal spots. The top finishers for the boys were Zack Buttigieg, Alex Holda, Connor Sherwood, Emmet VanCleave, Connor Boteler, Ruben Spencer and Domingo Decoster-Ellizondo. The team faces Michigan Center at home on Tuesday in their 2nd conference meet of the season.

Soccer

Western Panthers hosted the Dewitt Panthers Saturday in the Panther Bowl.
There were a lot of panthers running around!

Western struggled to gain any kind of momentum Saturday night.  Dewitt seemed to take a page, or two, out of Western’s “playbook”.

Christian Roza battled throughout the night for Western, and was able to get into a dangerous opportunity in the second half, when he was fouled in the box.   He paid a price, but earned a penalty kick.  Roarke Watterson calmly set the ball, and scored the PK for Western’s only goal on the night.  Roza and Watterson were standouts for Western Saturday in the 5-1 loss to Dewitt.

Western resumes conference play at home Tuesday against Hastings.  They will certainly look to turn things around and finish the season strong.

Go Panthers!
